BYD Maintenance Cost in Malaysia: Schedule & Packages

Howmin is an independent BYD sales advisor. This website is not the official BYD Malaysia corporate website.

A BYD still needs scheduled servicing, but no fixed maintenance charge applies to every owner. Cost depends on the model, service stage, required work and whether the car has a service package. BYD Malaysia does not publish one standard price for each service, so an authorised service centre has to prepare an estimate or quotation for the particular car.

This guide explains the current interval, maintenance items and Standard and Plus packages. Details reflect BYD Malaysia information available in August 2026. Owners should confirm the latest terms for their model.

How much does BYD maintenance cost in Malaysia?

There is no single official figure for a BYD service in Malaysia. One service stage may involve different items from a later visit. The model and condition of wear items can also change the amount.

Without a package, the service centre quotes according to the model, current mileage and items due. Ask for the scope and expected charge before approval. A package total is not the price of one visit. It covers a stated period and mileage under its terms.

The BYD model range and current price list provide the exact model and variant names needed when requesting an estimate.

How often does a BYD need servicing?

For all BYD models currently sold in Malaysia, the first scheduled service is due after 1 year or 20,000 km, whichever comes first. Later services follow the same interval.

The former 3 month or 5,000 km first inspection no longer applies to the current range. A low mileage car still reaches its service date after 1 year. A high mileage car may reach 20,000 km sooner.

Check the latest service booklet and confirm the schedule with an authorised service centre in case model instructions or the programme change.

What is checked during scheduled servicing?

Scheduled servicing combines physical inspection with computer diagnostics. Exact work depends on the service stage, model and vehicle condition. A check does not mean replacement at every visit.

BYD Malaysia service information identifies items such as:

  • Reducer oil and its scheduled service requirement
  • Air conditioning filter and refrigerant
  • Brake fluid, brake pads, brake discs and general brake condition
  • Drive motor coolant and cooling system condition
  • Tyres, wheel alignment, balancing and rotation condition
  • The 12V auxiliary battery and remote control battery
  • Wiper blades and windscreen washer fluid
  • Suspension components
  • Computer diagnostics
  • Software checks, with updates handled when applicable

These are areas covered across BYD maintenance and service packages, not a promise that every item is serviced or replaced at each appointment. The centre should explain what is due and what needs attention after inspection.

What maintenance does a BYD EV not need?

A full electric BYD has no petrol engine, so it does not need engine oil, an engine oil filter, spark plugs or a conventional petrol or diesel powertrain service schedule.

It is not maintenance free. Reducer oil, coolant, brake fluid, air conditioning parts, tyres, brakes, suspension, wipers and the 12V battery still need attention at the relevant time. Home charging is covered in the single phase wall charger guide.

Questions about battery degradation and coverage are explained separately in the BYD battery warranty guide.

How Standard and Plus service packages work

BYD Malaysia offers Standard and Plus service packages with stated years and mileage limits. A package combines specified service items and labour across stated years and kilometres. Mileage limits follow the schedule, such as 20,000 km for 1 year and 40,000 km for 2 years. The BYD Cares page also presents longer periods.

Standard and Plus are coverage levels, not individual visits. Standard covers labour, parts and service items stated in its terms. The listed items may include reducer oil service, the air conditioning filter, brake fluid, drive motor coolant and air conditioning refrigerant.

Plus adds only its listed items. Some packages list wear items such as wiper blades, the 12V battery, brake pads or brake discs. They are handled when the relevant wear condition is reached, not replaced automatically at every service. Coverage depends on the selected package and its current item list. Confirm tyres, alignment work and other consumables against that document.

Pricing and availability can change. Ask for the current document for the exact model and variant, then compare its total coverage with paying separately. Do not divide the package total into an assumed cost per service because the work differs between visits.

Can owners pay for each service separately?

Yes. Owners without a service package can pay for each scheduled service at an authorised BYD service centre.

The centre quotes according to the model, mileage and actual items. Ask whether the quotation covers only scheduled work or includes an additional item found during inspection.

What may still require a separate quotation?

Normal wear depends on use. Tyres, wiper blades, brake components, wheel alignment and balancing may need attention at different times. Accident damage and repairs outside scheduled maintenance are separate matters.

Wear item coverage depends on the exact terms and whether its replacement condition has been reached. If an item is not listed, treat it as potentially separate and ask the centre to confirm before approving the work.

Can servicing affect the warranty?

Complete scheduled maintenance according to the required time or mileage, whichever comes first. Missing scheduled maintenance may affect warranty coverage, depending on the applicable terms and circumstances. Keep the service records and invoices.

If a service date is approaching or the history is incomplete, ask an authorised centre what is required. This guide does not decide a particular warranty case.

How to request a current service estimate

Prepare these details before contacting an authorised service centre or asking about an ownership package:

  • Model and variant
  • Registration year
  • Current mileage
  • Estimated annual mileage
  • Whether the vehicle already has a service package

These details identify the next service stage and relevant package. Use the BYD Malaysia service centre locator to find an authorised location. If you are choosing a car, include the same details in your enquiry to discuss current service arrangements alongside its price and daily use.
